Governor Holcomb Earns 79% Approval Rating

83% approve of governor’s handling of COVID-19 pandemic

INDIANAPOLIS – Hoosiers approve of the job Governor Eric Holcomb is doing by historic margins. A poll conducted by BK Strategies found that Hoosiers gave Holcomb high marks for his overall job performance and his handling of the global COVID-19 pandemic. Eighty-three percent approve of the governor’s response to the pandemic and 79% approval of his overall job performance.

“Governor Holcomb’s steady, data-driven and compassionate leadership during this crisis has resonated with Hoosiers and created a connection between an elected official and his constituency like we’ve never seen,” said Kyle Hupfer, chairman of the Indiana Republican Party and manager of the governor’s reelection campaign. “These numbers are astonishing and show the trust Hoosiers have in Governor Holcomb’s stewardship of our state.”

The governor also earned high marks for favorability, with 71% viewing him favorably and only 14% viewing him unfavorably. This support carries into Governor Holcomb’s reelection efforts. A head-to-head matchup favors Holcomb by a landslide margin. Sixty-four percent support the governor with only 21% supporting presumptive Democrat nominee Woody Myers.

“Governor Holcomb knows that when you have the right policies, politics will take care of itself and these new poll numbers show that to be the case. The governor is laser-focused on guiding our state through the pandemic and ensuring we come roaring back better than before. Hoosiers trust his leadership and are poised to overwhelmingly give him four more years,” Hupfer added.

This new poll confirms the findings of a Washington Post poll released last week that had Governor Holcomb at a 76% approval rating.

The poll was conducted on May 20-21 and surveyed 600 likely voters throughout the state, with a margin of error of +/- 4.0%. A polling memo is linked here.
