Signing Bills & Helping Hoosiers

Governor Holcomb Signs Balanced Budget, Workforce Bill & More

Yesterday, Indiana’s 51st governor celebrated his 51st birthday! And to celebrate his birthday week, Governor Eric Holcomb was hard at work for Hoosiers, signing several people-focused bills that passed the Indiana General Assembly.

— Balanced Budget: Indiana’s new two-year budget is honestly-balanced, maintains responsible reserves and protects our AAA credit rating. It provides an historic $763 million in new money for K-12 education, including paying down a $150 million schools pension liability that will free up funds that can go into teacher paychecks.

— Workforce Development: Governor Holcomb is doubling down on Next Level Jobs, helping more Hoosiers skill-up either on the job or through certificate programs. The state is also making it easier for job creators to partner with local schools and prioritizing local solutions to career coaching.

— Exempting Military Pensions from State Income Tax: Our talented, patriotic veterans are some of the most experienced, focused and loyal workers anywhere, and Indiana is working to attract and retain them as part of Indiana’s workforce.

— Economic Development: Indiana is modernizing economic development tools to increase competitiveness, economic diversity and flexibility.

— School Safety: This is one of Governor Holcomb’s top priorities, and this new law provides access to more funding for safety equipment, facilitates partnerships with local law enforcement and requires threat assessments in our schools.

But Governor Holcomb’s week didn’t stop there. Yesterday, he announced that 17 communities will receive $24.9 million in state grants to support trail development as part of Next Level Trails! Check here to see if your community was selected in this first round!
