Meet Janet

Small Businesswoman. Farm Girl. Dog Mom. First Lady.

As a small businesswoman, farm girl, proud dog mom, and wife of Governor Eric Holcomb, First Lady Janet Holcomb is passionate about helping Hoosiers. But before she was Indiana’s First Lady, Janet grew up on a small horse farm near Muncie. On the farm, she gained her love of drawing, animals and the outdoors. An accomplished equestrian, Janet rode competitively in both Western and English, participating in regional shows and 4-H for over ten years. Janet then went on to Ball State University, where her love of drawing helped her earn both bachelor’s and master’s degrees in fine arts. But as a daughter and granddaughter of small business owners, some of her most valuable lessons were taught by her family.

Those lessons – including hard work, fiscal responsibility, and a commitment to service – guided Janet as she helped lead her family’s manufacturing business, which has been producing and distributing bolts and fasteners across the U.S. and Canada for 50 years. In addition to her business skills, Janet is also skilled with a firearm. She’s an NRA-certified pistol instructor and has led training classes throughout Indiana – often partnering with the Indiana National Guard and members of law enforcement. She also enjoys hunting, fishing, and shoots sporting clays on a regular basis.

As Indiana’s First Lady, Janet is an advocate for women in business and is fighting to help lower Indiana’s infant mortality rate. Whether it’s our Hoosier veterans, our youth organizations, our animal welfare groups, our arts organizations or our scouting and 4-H programs, Janet is there.
